Pretty Things: August 2017

  1.  Liv for Cake:  Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookie Cups.  These may have subconsciously been the inspiration for my recent icebox cake.  Although I’ve always loved the childlike combination of peanut butter and jelly, I like it even more when it’s twisted into something a little more luxurious and adult.  peanut-butter-jelly-cookie-cups-5.jpg

2.  Bobby Flay: Fit. Bobby Flay is one of the only legit chefs still on Food Network.  Not to say that others aren’t talented, but he’s the real deal.  It’s not often where a really in-shape guy would be so creative in the kitchen, but I trust him completely.  “Brunch with Bobby” is my favorite cooking show to watch right now, and I can’t wait to get this book when it comes out in December (you can pre-order now).51azz-a2iiL._SX373_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

3.  With Food and Love:  Roasted Sugar Snap Peas with Mint and Sea Salt.  I don’t post a lot of pictures of vegetables on the Pretty Things entries, but I’ve also never roasted sugar snap peas before.  The combination of sweet caramelized peas with fresh mint and sea salt sound incredibly mouthwatering, and the picture makes me feel like I can almost taste it.  What a refreshing warm weather side.  roasted-snap-peas-2-683x1024.jpg

4.  OGX: Sea Mineral Moisture Lotion. Obsessed might not be a strong enough word to describe how I feel about sea-scented beauty products.  I used this shampoo and conditioner combo last summer and loved it, and the lotion is even better.  It smells salty, earthy, and very…minerally.  The scent also lasts a long time and a little goes a long way. Plus a 20 ounce bottle is only about $9.  40c32585-c343-4ab4-9ab1-c83594f47ed3_1.6c31730d0da409911cedfe6f21171906.jpeg

5.  At Home:  Inspirational Coffee Mugs.   You can file this under “basic af,” and this stuff is usually so not my style, but I’ll tell you why I changed my mind about it.  No matter how cynical and sarcastic I am, I have to admit when I can use a little mood booster in the morning…in the form of some pretty graphics and optimistic phrases.  You’ll never find a “live, laugh, love” picture in my house.  But you know what?  What harm can can be done by seeing a phrase like “Make today beautiful” first thing in the morning?  124163392.jpg

6.  Twigg Studios.  I stumbled on this blog when doing a search for “sage recipes” on Pinterest.  (PS- that’s my favorite way to find interesting recipes and flavor combos.  Pick one ingredient, and you’ll find way more interesting stuff than what’s just filtered into your feed.)  Twigg Studios is done by Aimee Twigger, a British blogger and photographer.  Her recipes are earthy, interesting, and so beautifully photographed.  Her whole site will take you to a different time, but I wanted to share this photo of Goat Cheese Soft Serve Ice Cream with Blue-barb Basil Swirl because it feels the most seasonal.  soft-serve-chevre-icecream-wih-blue-barb-basil-swirl-1-3-1-dark-533x800.jpg

7.  Cravings of a Lunatic:  Rustic Peach Slab Pie.   Nothing says “comfort” more than a peach pie, unless it’s a peach pie with hearts all over it.  All this needs is a melty scoop of vanilla bean ice cream (or homemade vanilla, if that’s more your speed) to contrast the warm, tangy peach filling.  Rustic-Peach-Slab-Pie-8-683x1024.jpg

8.  Domino:  Wild Onion Flatbread.  Who would have the unfortunate task of cutting into this work of art?  It’s so pretty, it could be hung on a wall.  If you’re feeling particularly creative, this would be the perfect food to bring to a cocktail or wine night.  Just make sure to take a pic before slicing into it.a-sizable-feast-onion-and-wild-herb-flatbread-recipe-58506ba7c5e79a3408b3f391-w1000_h1000.jpg
